The Chestnut & Birch Side Table
A simple yet strikingly beautiful side table. The chestnut top was discovered in a woodland that had been recently coppiced; this discarded cross-section—often called a ‘cookie’—was specifically selected for its natural cracks and raw beauty. The piece even bore a chainsaw mark on the upper section, which we carefully repurposed for another mini project.
We chose Birch for the legs to create a deliberate contrast between the warm, rich hues of the chestnut and the pale, tapered supports. These legs were hand-turned on a pole lathe by a close friend, adding another layer of craftsmanship to the story.
Once combined, these elements created a truly magical piece that now sits proudly in my home.
